Few homes have the Hollywood pedigree as this Spanish stunner located on prime Kings Rd, north of the Sunset Strip. Comedic legend Charlie Chaplin was the original owner. What I thought was especially cool about this fact was that as I was looking at the chain of title for my buyer, the original documents from the 1920′s showing Chaplin as the owner were included in the scan. These docs are so old that it looks like they could call apart at any moment, but a cool piece of history non the less. Another interesting factoid about this property is that Robert Downey, Jr was an owner and as fate would have it, gave an Oscar Nominated portrayal Chaplin in the film “Chaplin”. Kelly Osborne was the last celebrity owner in the mid 2000′s and as you can see in the photos below, her English thumbprints are especially noticeable in the meticulously done bathrooms. As it pertains to the home, one item that kind of amused me was that out of all these decadent rooms, one room that is not over the top (although still gorgeous) is the kitchen. I was joking with my client and the listing agent that my hunch was that not much eating was happening in this home when you look at it’s most current, famous owners!
I saw this property when I was previewing for a client of mine who was coming into town the following day. Literally, we went into escrow within 3 days of it being on the market with a back up following from another buyer the day after. This is a side note, but the one thing that I cannot express enough to clients who are looking to buy now is that there is not a huge supply of great inventory within this price point. Certainly there have been slow downs in other markets, but in the prime LA real estate scene properties are going into multiple bids and days on the market can be 1-3 days for an extraordinary listing. Long story short is that if you see a home that you love and you’ve seen what’s out there, just make an offer. It’s always better to be the first one in vs. bidding against others. We were fortunate to have timed this perfectly and I could not be more excited for my client.
